Herb Church is a monthly immersive event I run with Pauline O’Flynn at Larder East in Belfast. We were fortunate to receive funding support last year from The Lottery Community Fund to trial it until March 2026. It’s been such a beautiful experience that we are now in the process of looking to extend the project for another year.
Herb Church was something that very much came out of my book, A Little Herbal Hymnal, in that I wanted to draw a community of plant lovers to deep-dive one native Irish plant each month, exploring it with each of our senses. We connect with our ancient Irish traditions, ancestry, language, folklore, and plant wisdom, offer mystery tea-tastings, sample wild foods, and make herbal medicines together around the fire. During summer months we also offered urban plant walks around the local area. The plants we have met to date, include Birch (Betula pendula), Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), Elder (Sambucus nigra), Yarrow (Achillea millifolium), Nettle (Urtica dioica), Pine (Pinus silvestris)
Tickets are available on eventbrite each month but places are limited and sell out very quickly. If you’re interested in joining the mailing list to receive information about Herb Church, drop me an email here or contact hello@thelarderbelfast.com
